about

Iron Bird - written about the invisible economic decline of America.

lyrics

Iron Bird

I went up to the ticket gate
but the ticket taker was running late
He fell upon an early fate
the show must go on

The town organ grinder
watched feet upon the moon
listened to promises of kindness
that ended all too soon

Up on 5th Ave
executives gamble revenues
The man searches for for a new saloon
raise a toast and wink an eye
Cause now these wings are rusted
The Iron Bird won't fly

And the lawmen, they frown upon
the hungry they look down upon
making deals to legislate
lobby in back rooms

bound by blood this yoke we wear
the debt of war forced to bear
labor sets the blood a boil
with cowed indifference we must toil

and the salesmen now are governors
who point fingers at young mothers
and tear babies from their arms
slowly raise the blade
wash their hands of any harm

And the ragman's son wonders how
turns to wave goodbye
because now his wings are rusted
and his iron bird won't fly
