They say pay no attention to the monkey on our back
It's been there far too long and we can not take it back
years ago this land was green we put money in the soil
but the tide has turned and we learned to trade blood for oil
we fill the air and sky above with mystery cocktails
and chase it down with a shot of carbon to forget it was there

and I say dear God please save us
wash away all of the freedom rust

they say pay no attention to the deals made in back rooms
where the oil men belch and bend and choke us on their fumes
where idiots of industry are blinded by their sheen
the advertise it's no surprise they suddenly are green
enslave us with machinery and lie about the facts
then hire evil experts to cover up their tracks

and I say dear god please save us
wash away all of the freedom rust

and this time it may be too late
to undo the damage that's been done
let us pray for a better fate
for our children this battle must be won
